I have been involved with fiber-related activities for as long as I can remember. Beginning with my mother and aunt teaching me to embroider, knit and sew, at a very young age.
In college, I studied textile design and once my children left home, I rediscovered weaving. Since then I have been mostly self-taught, learning from my mistakes, reading everything I can find on weaving, joining weaving guilds (I belong to 4), and learning from other weavers. I am currently working towards my Master Weaver Certification through the Hill Institute in Florence, Mass.
I am mostly influenced in my designs by color and how it can be manipulated by weave structure and design. I have learned to see nature as the perfect color wheel. My inspiration for a piece can be the colors found in the shading of driftwood on the beach, the setting sun, or just the arrangement of the cones of yarn on the wall in my studio.
My pieces are unique. Weaving is a very intricate, intense hand-woven labor of love. A lot of thought and time goes into the design; choosing the colors and weave structure, winding the warp on the warping reel, dressing the loom, then finally throwing the shuttle and watching the fabric grow.
I am passionate about the need to preserve the quality and spirit associated with handmade work; and I hope you will enjoy using my pieces as much as I have enjoyed creating them.
My weaving studio is located in my home, in the south end of Boston. The south end (SOWA) is a vibrant artist community brimming with inspiration and community. We are known for our craftsmanship and attention to detail.
